Dave spent his childhood living throughout South Dakota and Nebraska, wherever his father was a pastor at the time. Dave had fond memories of the sandhills, playing football, his mother’s cinnamon rolls, working various jobs on the farm and rebel rousing with his brothers. He graduated from Atkinson High School in 1954 and served in the army from 1954 to 1957. In the Army, Dave worked as a small engine airplane and helicopter mechanic throughout Europe, including Germany, Austria and Italy. Dave’s adult life included living in Kansas and Nebraska. He was married to Karen and fathered two children, Davey and Sheryl. Dave worked various jobs, including sales, truck driving, battery factory work, and as a service manager for a Volkswagen dealership. He was most proud of his mechanical and entrepreneurial endeavors including starting Ecco Motors with his little brother, Bernie. Dave married Marian in 1972. Along with Marian’s two children, Carla and Tim, she and Dave had 3 children together, David, Eric and Kelli. Dave started and ran Millard Motors for close to 30 years, specializing in Volkswagens. He was known for his honesty, hardwork and generosity. As Dave grew older, his most important job became being a grandpa, where he thrived.
