Song, Xin "Zoe"
5/22/1976 - 11/10/2023
With heartfelt sorrow, we commemorate the life of Zoe Song (Song Xin 宋欣), who peacefully embraced eternity on November 10, 2023, at the age of 47.
Zoe was the devoted wife of Nicholas Spies, stepmother to Lydia and Tabitha Spies, and mother to Cleopatra, Nefertiti, and Horus, their three kitties. Zoe was the cherished daughter of her mother, the late Wang Yuxian (王玉先).
Zoe was born in Beijing, China and moved to the United States in 2000 to pursue continued education after receiving her undergraduate degree in teaching from Beijing Union University. Zoe began her internship with Union Pacific Railroad in 2002. During her internship she obtained her Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After her internship, she contracted with Union Pacific for a year before becoming an employee in 2006. While employed with Union Pacific she obtained her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. During her 21 years at Union Pacific, Zoe became a beloved colleague who touched so many lives with her passion and commitment to the people she encountered.
During her lifetime she enjoyed many hobbies like sewing, cycling, photography, fencing, and traveling. However, her true passion shone through in her culinary talents, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts (and stomachs) of those who knew her. Zoe showed her caring side in many ways, but when it was through her food, it was the best way. Her food was pure love, and if you ever had it, you knew it immediately.
As we bid farewell, we resonate with the sentiments of those touched by her life: "Thank you, Zoe, for changing our lives with your generosity and for filling our hearts and bellies with love. Your memory will forever be cherished."
A celebration of life will occur in the near future. Please look for details on social media, or contact Nick Spies or any of Zoe’s close friends.
