William Joseph Tietjens, born to George Tietjens and Agnes Winans on November 20, 1933, at Immanuel Hospital located at North 34th and Meredith, Omaha, Nebraska just as 4 of his other brothers were. The family lived at 4743 North 40th Street (except for a couple years in the 30’s when they lived on a small farm in the 78th and State St. area) from the early 30’s until John, the oldest brother passed, and the home was sold to Holy Name Catholic High School in 1999.
Bill attended a country school in Irvington for a year or so, also Central Park Grade School, Holy Angels Catholic School and finally graduating North High School in 1949. After school Bill was in the brick layer trade for a few years before serving in the Army for three years. Bill was stationed stateside and part of a small unit who’s job it was to penetrate Army installations State Side and attempt to compromise the security of the commanding officer.
Bill married his first sweetheart in the early mid 50’s and in the early 60’s they adopted 2 children between ‘61’ and ‘62’, Billy and Donna. In the early 60’s they purchased an acreage w/ the help of his father George which stayed in the family until 2016 when William needed to go into assisted living because of Alzheimer’s disease.
Bill spent most of his adult life working for American Family Ins. starting in 1960, for 35 plus years until he retired. Bill helped set company standards for American family such as, among other accomplishments, being the first along w/ a couple of agents who fell in with him to rent a commercial space and set up an office verses operating out of their basement which was the company protocol. After his superiors realized the success this move created it became standard operating procedure for the company.
Bill was like a father to his younger half-brothers and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him……..
Survived by son William Tietjens, Jr; daughter Donna Jean Tietjens; brother Patrick (Kathy) Minikus; 4 grandchildren; many other relatives & friends.
