CADWALADER, William E. “Bill” 12/10/1939 – 4/30/2019 Age 79 years of Omaha Bill was born in Omaha and lived in Omaha and North Loop Nebraska and Wyoming. Growing up he and his brother and sisters Ray, Bunk, Holly lived with Elmer and Silva Drawbridge. He attended North Loop High school where he played Basketball and marched in the Band and was a part of the Future Farmers of America. At age, 17 in 1957 he join the United States Navy and attended boot camp in Great Lakes Illinois. Upon graduation from Boot camp, he attended Fire Control Technician “A” school as a Fire Control Technician Automatic Directors (FTA) Seaman. His first duty station was the commissioning crew of the USS DEWEY (DLG14) with Commander Zumwalt as the Commanding Officer who later became The Secretary of the Navy Admiral Zumwalt. Come December 1960 it was time for him to leave active duty and transfer to the United States Navy Reserve until 1963 when he had completed his Navy service as a Fire Control Technician Guns (FTG) Third Class Petty Officer. Once back home from the Navy Bill and a friend ran a cross some girls at A&W Root beer in 1960 who “may or may not” had car problems. He spotted Marilyn his soon to be wife and asked her for her phone number. 6 WEEKS later on his 22nd birthday after his friends stood him on his head, he asked Marilyn to marry him and she said YES. The birthday party was 6 houses down the street from the house they bought together and lived at for 51 years. They were married on May 18th 1962 in Ralston, Nebraska. Bill started his working years in Omaha working for Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame architect Harold Glissman building golf course in Maple Village now Warren Swigart in Omaha and another course in Lincoln. After building golf courses, he transitioned in 1968 to working for the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department maintaining the courses. Through the years he was the Golf Course superintendant at the following courses Maple Village now Warren Swigart, Applewood Golf Course now the Johnny Goodman Golf Course, Fontenelle Park Golf Course, and Miller Park Golf Course. Retiring in 1996 after 28 years of service to the City of Omaha. In 1969 the news came they were having a baby girl Julie Ann (Cadwalader) Owen and then again three years later came a another baby Jeffrey Scott Cadwalader. Throughout the years, he was a very proud father and grandfather. In 1992 the first of the grandchildren was born Jaryd William Owen, then in 1995 came Jordyn Christine Owen. Then again in 1996 he was a grandfather again to Michael Charles Niesen to be followed by Kirstyn Michallah Cadwalader in 1998, again in 2000 he gained another grandchild Scott Edward Cadwalader followed by the last one in 2002 Matthew Aaron Cadwalader. Glorious news came in 2013 with the first great grandchild Jaryd William Owen Jr. then again in 2018 with the birth of William Lee Owen. Bill enjoyed many things during his life. He loved to watch old westerns and military war movies. Marilyn and Bill have belonged to many organizations throughout the years. Then in 1970 they became members of the Nebraska Iowa Railroaders where he filled many positions including president. Their love of the outdoors led them being members of the Omaha African Violet and Gesneriad Society (OAVGS) and Omaha Rose Society. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years Marilyn; Daughter Julie Owen & husband George; Son Jeff Cadwalader & wife Amy; Mother Blanche Kissler; 6 grandchildren Jaryd William Owen,Jordyn Christine Owen, Michael Charles Niesen, Kirstyn Michallah Cadwalader, Scott Edward Cadwalader, and Matthew Aaron Cadwalader. 2 great grandsons Jaryd William Owen Jr., William Lee Owen., brothers Ron Kissler and George Kissler, sisters Agnes Bleick and Cathy Cook, and sister in-law Kathy Drawbridge, other relatives and friends.
