Mac was born on July 6, 1936 to Wally and Ruth Miller in Omaha where he lived and graduated from Central High School. Following high school and attending Omaha University he enlisted in the US Navy.
Upon his return to Omaha he joined the Omaha Fire Division in August 1960. Over his 30+ year career with OFD he rose to the rank of Captain and specialized in building fire code inspections and arson investigation. Mac was selected to be part of the first group of arson investigators to attend and graduate from the Omaha Police Academy to become a certified law enforcement officer. He was very proud of his service to the Omaha community for helping ensure public safety.
Mac married Diane (Thomas) Miller on December 14, 1957 and together they raised four children (Shelley, Suse’, Lori, and Scott) in Omaha. While raising their family, Mac and Diane enjoyed spending one month every summer at their property on Straight Lake in northern Minnesota. Following retirement from OFD in December 1990, they moved to their new retirement home on the lake they had spent so much time with their family and friends over the years.
After a number of years in Minnesota, they returned to Wahoo, Nebraska to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They split their time between Nebraska and their second home in Alamo, Texas to enjoy the seasons (and avoid Nebraska winters).
Mac was a story teller through and through and made an impression on each person he met. His stories will continue to be remembered fondly by those who were touched by him.
