BARTEL, Vivian N. 3/11/1928 – 2/19/2019 Age 90 years of Omaha Vivian Johnson Bartel passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 19, 2019.She was born on March 11, 1928 in Hallock, Minnesota to Andrew Alfred Johnson and Elosina Goransson Johnson.She was the youngest child in a family of 10 children and grew up on a dairy farm in Farmington, Minnesota.She was Valedictorian of the Farmington High School class of 1945.She attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and graduated from the Minneapolis School of Business, where she met Leonard E. Bartel.They were married January 19, 1948 and lived in Minneapolis, Mankato & Marshall, MN before moving to Omaha, NE in 1953.She worked as a bookkeeper until her children were born, then devoted herself to her family and all of their activities.She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard E. Bartel in January 2005, as well as her parents and 9 brothers & sisters. She is survived by her children: Mary Vicenik & husband Tom of Pinehurst, NC; Terry Bartel of Omaha, NE and Jay Bartel of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Aimee Jones & husband Todd of Avoca, IA; Noah Bartel & Angelica Bartel of Omaha; great-grandchildren: Drew Jones & Ashley Jones of Avoca, IA, as well as numerous nieces & nephews. Vivian enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, sewing, reading & working crossword puzzles.She was also an excellent cook .She also enjoyed watching all sports events on TV, especially Nebraska Cornhusker football games & Creighton University basketball games. She enjoyed being a Mom, a Grandma & a Great-Grandma.She fell breaking her right hip and right leg at age 86 while still living in her own home.She managed to survive major surgery, several weeks of rehabilitation and a move to an assisted living facility.A month after she was settled in her new “home”, she fell and broke her left hip.Again, she survived major surgery, another stay at a rehab facility and eventually returned to her apartment. She was an inspiration to everyone.
