Michel, Vicki Lynn

10/14/1953 - 7/26/2024

Vicki Lynn Michel was born on October 14, 1953 in Fremont, Nebraska to John and Jackie Luther. She was the eldest of six children, and grew up on a farm outside of Hooper, NE, where her strong work ethic and nurturing personality was instilled. She was a farm kid who loved 4H, fishing, and fiercely loved her younger siblings. Vicki graduated from Logan View High School in 1971 where she participated in baton and softball. By no surprise, she was honored as a Future Farmers of America (FFA) Sweetheart. After high school, she attended Lincoln School of Commerce. She enjoyed playing co-ed softball and made many life-long friends.

On March 5th, 1977, Vicki Luther and Mark Michel were married in Lincoln, NE. Through that union, they had five children, Jamie, Carrie, Jeffrey, Katie, and Derek. She built a beautiful life with her children in Malcolm, NE, making too many memories to list. Her children always came first; they were her entire world, and she would do anything for them.

Vicki’s commitment to hard work led her to fulfilling occupations. She spent several years at Malcolm High School working as the librarian and cheerleading coach. These positions allowed her to be close to her children, while also giving her an opportunity to impact many students. She was the students’ favorite with her benevolent and fun-loving personality. Vicki retired from a rewarding job at Immanuel Pathways as a Personal Care Assistant Supervisor. During her 11 years of service, she cared deeply for her staff and participants. She loved ‘dress up days’ and would enthusiastically dress to the nines, making everyone laugh and smile with her entertaining and detailed costumes.

Vicki enjoyed her professions, but her favorite titles were Mom and Grandma. She cherished her family time and was devoted to supporting her grandchildren in their many activities, from theater to football, to basketball to choir, and everything in between. She rarely missed an event. When she wasn’t cheering on her grandchildren, she loved meeting family and friends for margs and taking trips with the three amigos. Vicki loved her people with fervor. She is loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Vicki Michel peacefully passed away surrounded by her beloved children and family on July 26, 2024 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jackie (Wheatley) Luther, her brother, Mike Luther, and her granddaughter, Freya Michel. She is survived by her loving children, Jamie (Ryan) Henderson, Carrie (Ed) Sempek, Jeff (Jessi) Michel, Katie (Shelby) Anderson, Derek (Megan) Michel; grandchildren, Emma Henderson, Grady Henderson, Haleigh Pentico, Leighton Anderson, Bella Henderson, EJ Sempek, Tenlee Anderson, Landry Michel, Collins Anderson, Iyla Michel; siblings, Debra (Brian) Thielfoldt, Sheri (Dave) McCardle, Lori (Jim) Gartner, Marky John (Mary) Luther; and many more family and friends.

A private family service will take place Friday, August 2nd at Westwood Church with a Celebration of Life reception for all who loved her to follow from 2-5pm at Soaring Wings Vineyard (17111 S 138th St., Springfield, NE 68059).
