Vernon graduated from Minden High School in 1943. In 1948 he was married to Marian Jane Culbertson in Los Angeles. Vernon and Jane lived in Minden and Vern farmed with his father until 1951 when he moved to Bayard, Nebraska where he farmed and ranched. He and Jane moved to Scottsbluff when he retired and then moved to Omaha in 2012 because of his declining health. Vernon and Jane were active in their church and Vern was a member of the Gideons. They loved to travel. Australia and Costa Rica were their favorite places. Preceded in death by: parents Joseph & Stella Petersen, infant daughter Ann, sister Marian Wise, Grand Daughter Kristen Wiese; He is survived by his Wife of 66 years Marian “Jane”; Children: Kathleen (Bob) Mabrey, Barbara (Floyd) Dawson, David (Nancy) Petersen, Pamela (Ron) Wiese; 12 Grandchildren & 5 Great Grandchildren.
