Timothy White

April 2, 1943 — December 28, 2018

Timothy Don White was born on April 2, 1943 to Donald and Lillian White. He grew up in Omaha, attended Omaha schools, and graduated from Central High School and the University of Omaha with a major in conducting and vocal music. He pursued a Masters Degree in sacred music from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. There he met Annette Sherwin, his future wife who was pursuing a Masters in organ performance. After graduating from Union, he served 2 years in the US Army at Fort Ord California. He and Annette were married on October 11, 1970 three months before being discharged from his military service. They moved to New Jersey where he embarked on a 33 year career in public school music teaching. He retired in 2013, and he and Annette moved back to Omaha to care for his aging parents. During his years in New Jersey, he conducted school choirs, church choirs, and sang in a New York City church choir. The highlight of his music career was his selection as conductor of the 1990 New Jersey All State Chorus. In 1973, Tim took up photography “as a hobby”. It blossomed into a successful second career along with teaching. He specialized in nature photography with emphasis on the seabird, the Atlantic Puffin. His multimedia presentation on the life of the puffin, and the efforts of Audubon Society to restore it on the Maine coast, has been published in books, magazines, and newspapers. His photos have won many prizes and awards. In his retirement years in Omaha, Tim was active in the Omaha Camera Club, served as substitute conductor for several church choirs, drove blood for the Red Cross, and helped care for his parents until their deaths in 2010 and 2011. Tim will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, love of family, love of country, love of photography, music, and travel. Throughout his life he remained a loyal Husker fan! He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Terry. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Annette; brother Jay (Cheryl); and numerous nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life: Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11AM at Braman Mortuary 72nd St. Chapel with a gathering of family and friends 1 hour prior.
