Thomas "Tom" J. Maslowsky
August 29, 1945 ~ July 14, 2024

Tom, or Mouse as he was known by his friends, was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. He served on the USS Kearsarge during the Vietnam War, enlisting in 1963 and Honorably Discharged in 1969. He had many fond memories of his years in the service and loved to reminisce about those times.

Tom had many interests and was an avid collector; he loved anything old. His collections were varied, from meat grinders, spark plugs, oil cans, and gas globes, to tractors, hit and miss motors and weathervanes, to name just a few. He enjoyed attending thrashing shows, tractor shows and auctions. He often displayed his spark plug collection or demonstrated one of his hit and miss motors powering a long saw at these shows. He enjoyed visiting with other collectors and event goers and was always on the lookout for more items to add to his collections.

He had many talents as well. Tom was an excellent woodworker, he built his own cabinets with leaded glass from scratch and even made wooden puzzles. He loved working on old cars and tractors. His prized possession was his 1936 Chevrolet Suburban that he purchased in San Diego, California, in 1965 for $99 and drove back to Omaha after his discharge from the Navy. He loved gardening and canning his garden harvest. He loved flowers, especially lilacs and had many varieties planted at his acreage in Iowa.

Tom LOVED to stop at Bronco’s to get his usual Bronco’s Combo with root beer.

The Report of Enlisted Performance Evaluation from the Navy dated November 1965 rings true: “Maslowsky is very well liked by his shipmates and helps to boost morale of his shipmates. Good man”.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Misty Leinbach; grandchildren, Daniel Herschlag (wife Ashleigh); Makala Neal (husband Jake) and Wyatt Leinbach and seven great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Bernie Maslowsky (wife Janet), Rick Maslowsky (wife Sarah), Nick Maslowsky, sister Mary Finley (husband Gregg) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Maslowsky, grandson, Todd Maslowsky, brother Ron Maslowsky and parents B.J. and LaVern Maslowsky

A graveside service with Military Honors is planned for July 22, 2024, at 11 am at the Omaha National Cemetery, 14240 Schram Road, Omaha, NE.

Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project or the VFW Post 2503.
