Tamara “ Tammy” Rae Thomas
7/15/60-9/5/23
Tammy was born on July 15th, 1960 to Gary and Carol Thomas (Bruening) in Omaha NE. She graduated from Millard South High School in 1978, where she could be found running track and was known for driving her dad’s orange Camaro. Following her graduation from high school she went to work at American National Bank as a customer service representative where she work for the next few years.
In 1980, Tammy gave birth to her “one and only” son, Tanner Thomas. She loved spending time with him, getting him involved in all sporting events, but loved watching him play baseball the most. She loved playing Nintendo with him, as well as making sure that he had the most updated baseball equipment.
Tammy would marry in 1990 to Scott Starkey and move to Columbus, NE where she would work at First National Bank for the next few years. She would return to live in the Omaha metro area around 2000 and would continue to work at First National Bank Omaha in the downtown building until she retired after 25+ years of service in the banking/customer service industry.
Tammy loved to spend her free time fishing, going to auctions and looking for antiques, especially anything that involved roosters and chickens. But her ultimate love was spending countless hours watching her grandsons play baseball!! She could always be seen showing up an hour before game time, just to get the “best seat in the house”, as she would say. She would take pictures or videos of every single at bat on her phone as well as being known for the occasional “rock and fire”, when her grandsons were pitching.
Tammy is survived by her mother Carol Thomas (Bruening), sisters Debbie(Mark)Mansur, Lori(Doug) Mahan, and brother Jerry(Patti) Thomas, Son Tanner(Tina) Thomas, Step Sons Kurt(Nadine)Starkey, Randy(Cindy) Starkey, Allan(Roxy) Starkey and Loren Starkey. She was a loving and caring grandmother and aunt/great aunt to several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Gary Thomas.
Tammy’s real gift was that she taught us all to live life simpler and truly enjoy every moment and that there is nothing more important than family. She always told people to be kind and gracious to one another no matter the circumstance.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with time and location to follow.
lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
