VOLKMER, Sue Ann 4/9/1948 – 9/23/2019 Sue grew up on the farm in Alvo, NE with her parents and sister. Growing up she loved playing the piano, sewing, cooking, and knitting. She was involved in 4-H where she learned how to sew and showed animals. Farming was not her first love but sewing quickly was taken on as her hobby. She graduated from UNL and became a Home Economics teacher.She later opened two different fabric and quilt shops and has taught hundreds of people how to sew and quilt. Sewing brought Sue joy and was a way to be productive while she watched a movie or waited for kids to get out of dance class, wrestling, and part time jobs. She spent the days making custom made wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, pillows and comforters, and making alternations on hundreds of dance costumes. She also used her talent of sewing to volunteer making baby quilts for stillborn babies, knitting hats and baby booties to welcome new life, and transformed donated wedding dresses to gowns for babies who left us all too soon. Sue was known for always having a project next to her at all times to keep busy. Sue Volkmer, 71, of Omaha, NE passed away Monday, September 23, 2019 at Josie Harper Hospice house. Sue was preceded in death by her parents. Survived by her sister, Joanie Coles, children, Jennifer Volkmer, Beth (Ryan) Harner, Jason (Jen) Volkmer, Steve Volkmer and Scott Volkmer, and grandchildren, Kyler and Bode Harner and Logan Volkmer.
