Stephen D. Campbell

December 28, 1946 — March 7, 2023

Stephen Douglas Campbell was born in Omaha, December 28, 1946 to Jesse Hugh Campbell and  Dorothy Alice Vail Campbell.  He grew up living above his parents’ family business, Farmers Produce, later Campbell Farm Supply, on Silver Street in Ashland.  He attended Ashland Public Schools, graduating in 1965.  He was active in vocal music and sports.  He received his high school’s Outstanding Athlete Award his senior year, which was presented by Bob Devaney.  In 1968 he moved to Boston, MA where he joined Steamfitters Local Union #537, working in the HVAC industry. While in Boston his three children were born: Stephen, Stephanie, and Danielle.

He returned to Ashland in 1990 and transferred his union membership to Local #464 in Omaha.  He worked for various contractors until his retirement in January 2006.  He then became an HVAC instructor at Vatterott College in Omaha, retiring in 2009.

He married  Cynthia Rogers Sherman in 1991, and added two step-sons to his family: Adam and Eric Sherman.

Steve was a member of the Ashland Rotary, a 50 year member of the Ashland Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee for a time.  He was a member and Past Master of Pomegranate Lodge #110, Ashland, transferring to Comet Lodge #229 Ceresco, when Pomegranate Lodge closed.

Steve enjoyed golfing, hunting, Nebraska football, Boston Celtics basketball and spending time with family and friends.  He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughters, Stephanie Campbell and Danielle Campbell; step-sons, Adam (Lisa) Sherman, and Eric (Natalie) Sherman; grandchildren, Jacob (Abbey) Williams, Emma Williams, Jaxon Russell, Phoenix Campbell, Skyler Sherman, Jacquelyn Sherman, Gabriel Sherman, Noah Sherman, Isaiah Sherman, Gage Sherman, Sophie Sherman, and Clara Sherman; great grandson, Harrison.  Brothers Gary (Mary) Campbell, Bradley Campbell; sisters, Sue Gaines, Penny (Jerry) Stewart; sister-in-law Paulette Campbell; brother-in-laws Ivan Rogers, Keith (Annette) Rogers; sister-in laws Karen Raikes, Claudia (Gene) Cerny.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen Campbell; grandson, Maclay Williams; brother, Dan Campbell;  father/mother-in-law Kenneth and Claudine Rogers; sister-in-law, Mary Rogers.

Stephen passed away in his home surrounded with peace and the love of his family on March 7, 2023 Visitation: 5pm - 7pm, Sunday, March 12, 2023. Memorial Service:11:00am, Monday March 13, 2023 all at Ashland Methodist Church, 1442 Adams St, Ashland, NE.
