Sheryl Ann Decker

August 27, 1946 — October 1, 2019

Sheryl Ann Decker Angel is the best way to describe our Sheryl Ann! Sherylwas born August 27, 1946 in Cedar Falls. Iowa. Parents:Betty and Marvin Moyer and Bob Decker. Family:Michele Madsen,(Tom, Marty and Andrew) Valerie “Val” Westmeyer,(Broc, Allison,Ella and Logan) Mitch Moyer (Leigh) Friends: To numerous to mention. Sheryl attended school in Cedar Falls Iowa. She then became a client at NorthStar Vocational Service where she lived with her family until 2006. She enjoyed her time at NorthStar doing activities, trips and odd jobs. She made many dear friends and had very fond memories of her time there. Sheryl loved her family. Mom, Dad, Michele,Val and Mitch. She loved all the special times and holidays together. She remembered these things and such love she held in her heart for them. The simple things gave her joy. Sheryl then moved to Omaha to live with MIchele when her mom became ill and passed away. Once here, Sheryl got to be involved with family and friends of Michele and Tom.MIchele became Sheryls guardian and guardian angel. Sheryl was social. She loved activities, get togethers, visits to Ackerman for programs or helping out. She told us once she was practically a “Teachers Aid” from her time at Ackerman. The Ackerman staffwelcomed her with open arms and in return, she gave back even more love and happiness. She had a mind and a memory of so many details. She listened and remembered. She loved stuffed animals and beanie babies. She had collections and treasures from an Elvis doll to Lady Dianna. She had VHS tapes of about any children’s show you could imagine. She cherished her things and did not like others tomove or thin them. Sheryl went out with the girls and had many fun times from birthdays, plays, parties, and even occasionally the casino. She went to Disney on Ice, the zoo, and attended the Apple Orchard in NE City on September 19, 2019. This was her last field trip. She had the chance to live in her own apartment at SouthView Heights retirement center. Here she had socialization, her own place and some physical care she needed. As she grew in need of more care, they moved her to County Health System. Change could be hard for Sheryl but the move here turned out to be very good. She loved the nurses and the residents. They all quicklybecame her friends. We knew this was OK when out with family she would say, “I think I need to get back.”It was comforting to know she was happy and cared for. She affected many she met. Her simple caring, kindness, and love she gave unconditionally. The values we all came to treasure. Her smile, her attitude of hand on her hip, the clap of happiness. The shake of her finger when getting teased. As time moved on Sheryl had began to lose weight, feel weak and finally required a hospital trip. She was diagnosed with cancer and the treatment would have been too hard on her. She said,” I want to go back, and be done with the tests.” So she returned to her home and spent the rest of the summer back with her friends. After her last field trip she began to weaken, she was tired and anxious to see her mom and Dad again. The last few weeks were harder for her. But thanks to Hospice, volunteers, and visitors they made her comfortable and able to rest. She died with her sisters close on Tuesday at 12:50 pm. We know she is in heaven with her mom and dad now. She is having quite the celebration with her family and friends that left before her. We would like to personally thank you for your support and friendship. We are all blessed for having this sweet angel come into our lives.
