Dolezal, Sally E.
May 9, 1940 - September 19, 2024
Sally Dolezal, age 84, loving mother of two, and adoring wife to Gary Dolezal, passed away in the comfort of her home on Thursday, September 19. Sally was born in 1940 in Sioux City, but spent most of her life in Omaha, Nebraska. She grew up surrounded by a loving family, including her brother Dennis and sister, Carolyn.
Sally met her husband Gary through a get-together with mutual friends. Upon meeting, Gary playfully pursued Sally and not long after, they were married in May of 1959. As their love grew, so did their family. Sally and Gary soon became loving parents to Wayne and Rhonda, where they lived a simple and traditional life on Redman Ave.
In her spare time, Sally was an exceptional seamstress, making clothes, curtains, quilts and more for her family. She also had a love for fashion and makeup, even being an Avon lady back in her day.
As the 60’s gave way to the 70’s, Sally had challenges she would have to face head-on while raising two young children. As a treatment for digestive issues, her doctor prescribed her a few cocktails a night, along with Valium. As a result, Sally became dependent on these drugs, and made a courageous decision to enter drug rehab during Christmas of 1978. After treatment, Sally would remain sober for the duration of her life and became dedicated to helping others overcome their battles. Sally returned to school and obtained an associate degree in 1987, where she became a counselor at a youth rehabilitation center. She was dedicated to her sobriety and AA family for the next 46 years of her life.
As time passed, Sally and Gary became empty nesters, and the requirements to counsel exceeded her degree. In her free time, Sally found joy in working various retail jobs, meeting with friends to go on walks, shop at the mall, and indulge the occasional sweet treat.
As her children decided to expand the family, Sally was thrilled to become a grandmother to Savannah and Aiden. She was quick to spoil her grandchildren and shower them with love. She shared with them her love of crafts and passed down the appreciation of sweets.
In 2009 after fifty years of marriage, her loving husband Gary passed away. Ultimately, Sally could not keep up with their house on Redman Ave after his passing and moved to the Skyline Manner. She continued to be bright light and social butterfly, bringing joy to all those around her.
Sally’s biggest wish was to remain independent throughout life, and we are grateful that wish was granted. Sally remained strong, sometimes stubborn, and joyful throughout life. Although she will be missed dearly, comfort is found knowing she has now joined her husband, Gary Dolezal.
Sally is survived by her two children, two grandchildren, and brother.
