Roseann Eleanor Rohwer

March 18, 1945 — August 25, 2018

Roseann Rohwer was born on March 18, 1945 at the Lutheran Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Hans and Ella Rohwer. Roseann was the last of 5 children over an eight-year time span. The children from oldest to youngest were Elaine, Claire, Marvin, Ralph and then Roseann. She grew up on a farm that was located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Highway 370 and Interstate 80. The majority of this farmland is now part of the Chalco Hills Recreation Area and the Wehrspann Lake. Roseann went to grade school in a one-room country schoolhouse called Stender School or District 34 at the southwest corner of Nebraska Highway 370 and Highway 50. It was a 1.25 mile walk to school. She went to High School at Plattview High School in Springfield, Nebraska. Plattview was a consolidated school and Roseann rode a bus to the school. After High School Roseann attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha; and majored in Art. She lived in a room not far from the campus and worked part time at a department store for spending money. After graduation she got a job in the Omaha School Systems as a Roving Art Instructor in five different elementary schools of Omaha. She enjoyed teaching the younger kids. Some of her students nicknamed her the "Lion Lady". With her last name being Rohwer (pronounced roar) it was a natural. Roseann retired after 30 years of teaching. Roseann enjoyed painting and making silver jewelry with turquoise stone during her teaching years. Roseann got into a couple different careers after retirement. She tried to run a second hand women's clothing store for large women in the Benson area of Omaha; but gave it up considering it somewhat of a loss. People found ingenious ways to pilfer dresses out of her store; and she couldn't make a profit. Roseann went to estate sales and garage sales a lot where she picked up antiques and collectables. She re-sold these in the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall located on the Sapp Brothers Frontage Road between interstate 80 and Highway 50. The mall has booths that individuals can rent to sell their goods. Roseann tagged her items and the store collected the money from the buyer. Roseann went on a couple vacations in the summers when she was off from teaching. She went to China and saw the Great Wall. She went to Egypt and saw the Pyramids. Her favorite trip was the one where she visited Ron and Marcelle Peterson (Her Niece and husband) in England. Ron had a job in Leicester of County Leicestershire, England for a couple of years (Leicester pronounced Lester). While she was there they toured together around England, Scotland and Wales.
