ISKE, RONALD E. “RON” 9/5/1938 – 12/31/2021 Ron Iske was born September 5, 1938. Franklin D Roosevelt was president that year. Ron met Dee at Paul’s Drug store in Papillion, NE. They were married in 1966. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Christopher and Patrick. Ron was an outdoor man of the land. He loved farming, his garden, and planting flowers especially geraniums. He despised squirrels that dug up his flowers on the front porch. More than once squirrel stew would have been on the dinner table if he could have caught them! He loved mowing the grass on his riding mower. He let Dee cut grass only ONCE with his mower after she ran into a tree. After losing his right arm in a horrific farm accident farm accident, he went to work as a custodian at G. Stanley Hall Elementary school in LaVista, NE. He retired from there after 29th years of service. He loved that school and all the staff there. To this day young people come up to him and tell him they remember him from that school. These young people now have families of their own. Ron joined Service Employees International Union while working at G. Stanley Hall School. He served as financial secretary for SEIU for 25 years. Ron was very dedicated to the Lord and St. Columbkille Parish. Ron and Dee have been members there for 50 years. He belonged to the Men’s Club, helped organize and run the weekly bingo program (earning the coveted title, “Mr. Bingo”). His favorite bingo story was about a man who played 25 bingo cards at a time every week. One week while the man was getting a snack, the man yelled “Bingo!” from the snack bar! His last major task at church was being in charge of “pickles” at all the major parish fundraisers, especially the fish fries. Ron was a true family man. He loved his wife and boys. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for those boys from buying them their first car, going camping with them in boy scouts, attending their baseball games, and giving them advice. When those boys got in trouble, they went to dad. Dad always said “wait until your mother gets home”. Ron was a man of few fighting words. If he raised his voice at you during a disagreement, you probably should just back off because more than likely, he was right! Ron had the corner on the “Husker” t-shirt market. He has more Husker shirts than Husker Hound and he preferred wearing one EVERY day! Ron was a happy man. He always greeted anyone he met with a smile. He seemed to have a song in his heart for life in general. Ron has left a void in our hearts that will last a lifetime for anyone who knew him and loved him. Survived by wife of 55 years, Dee; sons Chris (Amy) and Pat (Kristen); and grandson Brandon (Molly) Iske.
