Ron L. Maret
1956-2023

Ron Maret passed away on October 2, 2023 at Methodist Hospital with his family by his side.

Ron was born in Kearney Nebraska to Darrell and Reita Maret. Ron graduated from Millard High School in 1974. He attended University of Nebraska Lincoln briefly before he started working at Kellogg’s in Omaha in 1976. Ron met the love of his life, Deanna in 1977. Ron and Deanna were married on May 13, 1979.

Ron and Deanna welcomed daughters Andrea on September 6, 1979 and Becky on April 5, 1981. Family was everything to Ron. He and Deanna spent all of their free time raising their daughters. Ron loved playing sports, he was known to flood his backyard for his daughters to ice skate and play hockey. In the summer he loved getting the net and sticks out to play street hockey in the driveway. He also coached and played on an Adult Co-ed softball team on Sunday afternoons with his wife and he played on a Kellogg’s Tuesday morning men’s team. One of the highlights of his softball career was when his Kellogg’s team beat the opposing Kellogg’s team.

Ron made sure that his daughters tried every sport to see what they loved. For years he and his family were members of the Ak-sar-ben Curling Club. He and his wife Deanna even participated in the Olympic trials for Curling which were hosted at the Ak-sar-ben Curling Club. Ron also loved to take his family to Lancer Hockey games at the Ak-sar-ben Colliseum.

Ron was a member of Beer Can Collectors of American (BCCA) he and Deanna would go to Can-Ventions all over the Midwest. They loved to go to Junk-Jaunt through Nebraska to look for additions for his Beer Can and License Plate Collections. They also traveled to Colorado for a license plate show.

Ron retired from Kellogg’s in August of 2014 after 38 years.

In 2014 Ron welcomed his first grandchild, Delaney (Baby-Doll) and in 2016 Maddox (Mad Man). Ron loved being papa to these two. Any chance he got he would take them to Dairy Queen for Blizzards, to the water slides, ice-skating, miniature golf, to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, you name it he and Deanna were taking them. He enjoyed gardening with his grandchildren. They would plant tomatoes, cucumbers, asparagus, rhubarb, peppers, onions and of course flowers. Ron made sure Delaney and Maddox grew what there were going to enter for 4-H at the Sarpy County Fair. After the fair, he would tell the kids to get a bag to collect their harvest and walk to each neighbor’s house to share the produce.

Ron loved taking his family to Husker Volleyball games. He instilled this love for the game in his family. Most recently he took the entire family to the Red and White game this August.

Ron suffered a massive stroke on August 25, 2023. He spent a week at Bergan Mercy hospital before going to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital for Physical Therapy. He was taken to Methodist hospital on Thursday, September 28 for Congestive Heart failure.
