Robert Dale Tieken

August 18, 1937, - November 16, 2022

Bob was born August 18, 1937, in York, NE to Herman and Alice Tieken. He became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on 9/12/37 at St. John’s Lutheran Church ,Waco, NE. He affirmed his baptismal faith through the Rite of Confirmation at St. John’s Lutheran Church.                       .

Bob graduated from Waco High School in 1955 and attended Computer training school in Lincoln, NE..  After completing school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 1, 1961, and after basic training at  Fort Riley, Kansas, he was stationed at 5 th Army Headquarters in Chicago, IL, working in their computer division.  He was honorably discharged on March 1, 1963, and then served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1967.   He took a position with Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, NE in their computer department.  He retired after 40 years with the company.

Bob was united in marriage to Janet Dinkelman on September 6, 1959, at Peace Lutheran Church in Waco, NE.  The Lord blessed them with 63 years of marriage and three sons.  Bob was a member of several Lutheran churches throughout his life, holding various offices.  He was a charter member of Divine Shepherd Lutheran.   Some of his favorite activities was attending and doing some coaching of his sons’ baseball teams and then attending his grandchildren’s ballgames, dance recitalsand other activities.  There were very few of his children and grandchildren’s games and activities that he and Jan missed. He enjoyed traveling and especially two Caribbean cruises and a trip to Hawaii with some very special friends. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He especially enjoyed family gatherings at holidays and other times.

After 85 years of God’s blessings, God took his soul to himself on November 16, 2022.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Alice, brothers LaVern, Don, Gene, and Randy; sisters-in-law Alvera, Diane, and Mary Ann, brothers-in-law Eugene Reetz and Joe Light. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janet, children Scott (Rennae), of Omaha, Craig (Beth), of Scottsdale, AZ and Brett (Alisha)  of Denver, CO, Grandchildren Megan Roland, Kelsey Petersen, Becca Schmucker, Matt, Tanner, Joseph, and John; Great grandchildren Aiden and Peyton Roland, and Clayton Schmucker; Brother Lynn of Seward, NE, Sisters Lola Reetz of Stromsburg, NE; Ruby Light of Idaho, and Theo (Roger) Rucker of Utica, NE; sisters-in-law Carol Tieken of Washington; and JoAnn Tieken of Omaha, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends.

Bob loved his family deeply and when they called, he would stop whatever he was doing to accommodate them in any situation.  He will be missed greatly, but left us with many happy memories and timeless moments to cherish. We will be warmed by the memory of his love, care, faith and courage.  We thank God that Bob built his house upon the Rock, Jesus Christ.
