SUTHERLAND, Robert W. “Bob” 6/17/1949 – 2/13/2022 It is with sadness that the family of Bob Sutherland announces his passing on Sunday, February 13, 2022.Bob was a caring and loving husband of 54 years to his wife Rose, who was his high school sweetheart at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School in Burnt Hills, New York.In High School Bob was quite the accomplished athlete having played Varsity football and basketball beginning with his sophomore year. Bob joined the Air Force soon after graduating from high school; he proudly served his country fulfilling various roles as a Security Police Officer at multiple bases in the U.S., and overseas in Europe and South Korea.Bob retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service and went back to school to complete his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska – Omaha.Upon completion of his degree, Bob went onto work as a Residential Officer for the Fourth Judicial District in Council Bluffs, IA.He later trained and was certified as a Polygrapher, and worked in the District’s Sexual Offender program. His last duty for the Fourth Judicial District was as a Probation/Parole Officer, until his retirement after 25 years of service to the Council Bluffs community. Bob’s greatest joy in life came from being a Husband to Rose, a Dad to Jerry and Teresa, a Father-in-Law to Marlo and Jason, and especially from being a Grandfather to his 5 wonderful Grandkids (Alexis, Owen, Ethan, Jayden and Tatum).Grandpa Bob was extremely proud of each of his Grandkids and happily spent countless hours attending their school and sporting events throughout the years. Things Bob enjoyed most outside of his time with family included making sure his yard was meticulously groomed, drinking his coffee in the morning, watching Husker football games on Saturday’s, and feeding peanuts to the squirrels who he and Rose had names for. Bob was a great provider to his family, and a caring friend to many. His physical presence will be missed, but the example he set in how he lived his earthly life will have a lasting impact on many well beyond his entrance into Heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to either the American Cancer Society, or to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rose Sutherland; Son Jerry (Marlo) Sutherland; Daughter Teresa (Jason) Nelly; Grandchildren: Alexis, Owen, Ethan, Jayden, Tatum; Several siblings, relatives and friends.
