Long, Robert D.

Robert Long, son of Robert and Dorothy (Papik) Long was born on July 18, 1935 in Lincoln, Nebraska. During his early years, the family lived in Columbus prior to moving to Fremont. Bob graduated from Fremont High School in 1953. Bob loved playing football. The Nebraska High School Hall of Fame honored his senior football team’s undefeated season. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Brown, in 1955. They had two children; a son, Robert, and a daughter, Julie. Sadly, the marriage ended with Bernice’s untimely death in 1986. Bob was employed at Security Window Company for several years, rising to the position of Vice President. He also worked as a Sales Representative for the Bonnell Company prior to setting up his own custom cabinet business in Fremont. Subsequently, Bob remarried his surviving wife, Helen. With that marriage, he gained four more children, Kerry, Amy, Gregory, and Michael Eden. The family lived in the Papillion area until 1997 when Bob and Helen built a home north of Wahoo. For eight years, Bob volunteered in the Industrial Arts program at Bishop Newman High School. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the young students and took great pride in their accomplishments. Bob was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed sharing his talent with others. He liked to be busy and he never shied away from a challenge. In most recent years, when he could no longer engage in woodworking, Bob turned to painting. He was an excellent free-hand artist but once he attempted paint-by-numbers, he was hooked. Bob produced multiple paintings and generously gave them to family and friends. During his lifetime, Bob was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved them all and relished in their accomplishments. Bob left and indelible impression on all he met. His memory will live on for many years in all who knew him.

Survived by son, Robert A. (Jena) Long; daughter, Julie K. (Ron) Way; present wife, Helen; step-children, Kerry (Joe) Ruth, Amy (Tim) Daley, Gregory (Jennifer) Eden, Michael (Saeyeon Kim) Eden, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Saturday, April 22, 2023, 9:00-10:00 A.M. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 5801 Oak Hills Drive, Omaha, Nebraska followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M.
Burial: Monday, April 24, 2023, 1:00 P.M. at Memorial Cemetery, 800 W. 23rd St., Fremont, Nebraska.
