KNOTT, Robert E. age 89 years of Omaha, passed away April 25, 2012. Robert was born in Herman, NE and grew up in Omaha, NE. He passed away peacefully after suffering complications from a stroke. Preceded in death by, parents, Blanche & Floyd Sr.; brothers, Floyd Jr. & William; daughter, Pamela Susan Knott. Survived by, sister, Jane of Omaha; children, Robert E. Knott Jr. of Omaha, Douglas (Kathy) Knott; of Rochester, MN & Julia Ballard of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Chris Knott, Portland, OR, Ben Knott, Denver, CO, Katey Knott, Chicago, IL, Roger & Peter Ballard, Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Also survived by various nieces and nephews. Robert joined the 8th Army Air Corp. in 1944, served as a co-pilot on the B-17, “Wagon Wheels” during WWII. He and his crew were based in England and conducted bombing missions over Germany with the 94th Bomb Group. His B-17 was hit by enemy fire and crash landed in Poland during a mission in 1945 but was able to return with all crew members to England after being held captive for a short length of time. After the war he held positions with various companies and served with the Central Intelligence Agency. He was also active as a Mason. He met the love of his life, Pauline Hornbussel in 1946 in Omaha, NE. They married and enjoyed a long life together! The family will receive friends and veterans at a Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, May 26th at Braman Mortuary, 1702 N. 72nd St. at 2:00PM In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
