Robert David Bridie

November 1, 1942 — June 3, 2024

Robert “Bob” David Bridie, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly on June 3, 2024. Born to Eula Bridie and James “Don” Bridie on November 1, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family moved to Manilla, Iowa when his father retired from the airlines and where Bob grew up and attended school. Eventually, Bob would move to Omaha, NE where he lived most of his adult life. Bob’s early years were filled with lots of traveling via airplane rides due to his father’s occupation as a pilot. After moving to Iowa, Bob would often be found working in his parent’s drug store until he graduated from Manilla High school in 1960. He then moved to Omaha to continue his passion for learning and obtained a degree to become an x-ray technician. Professionally, Bob discovered that his passion lied within helping his community and in 1968, he joined the Omaha Police Department as a police officer. Throughout his 29 years with the Omaha Police Department Bob worked as a patrol officer, a detective and traffic officer. He officially retired from the police department in 1997, however, he decided he wasn’t quite ready to officially retire and joined the Eppley Airport Police Department for the next 13 years, before retiring for the second time in 2010. In 1979, Bob married his wife, Carol Bridie. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joyous hustle and bustle of raising their daughter Jayme. His role as a father was extremely important to Bob. Annual vacations were the backdrop for some of the family's most treasured memories as well as his love to take his family out to breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. Bob’s legacy is also carried on by his adored grandchildren: Lainey, Owen, and Cecelia. Each of them will remember their grandfather for his enthusiasm for all things school and sports and his endless gifts filled with snacks, treats, toys, and candy kept in his top dresser drawer. An avid golfer, Bob found solace in the serenity of the game. His played on several golf leagues and enjoyed time on the course with his friends and family. Bob's spirit of generosity was often extended though helping his family’s extracurricular activities and his love of animals and children. From helping behind the scenes at dance recitals, building sets for school plays, stepping in and coaching basketball and softball games, or the occasional animal rescue, Bob would lend a hand wherever he could. Proceeded in death by his parents, Bob's memory is honored and kept alive by his loving wife Carol, his daughter Jayme, son-in-law Justin, his cherished grandchildren and friends and family. A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living Community, 16811 Burdette Street, Omaha, NE 68116. Bob’s story is one of dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He will be deeply missed, but the seeds he planted in the hearts of those who knew him will continue to grow and flourish through the spoken memories of those who loved him.
