Rick L. Missell was born on February 4, 1952, to Rudolph and Margaret (Wilson) Missell in Aberdeen, South Dakota.He died on December 21, 2020, in Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. Rick grew up in South Dakota and graduated from Warner High School in 1970.He attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, one year before enlisting in the United States Air Force on August 13, 1971.He returned to Aberdeen following his discharge and enrolled in Presentation College where he earned his degree as a registered nurse. He was united in marriage to Marie Kruger on December 21, 1974, in Aberdeen.His career in nursing included working in the emergency room and as a member of the flight crew at Sioux Valley Hospital (now Sanford Hospital) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.While working full time to support his family he continued his education eventually earning two master's degrees.The family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1989 where he worked at Lincoln General Hospital and to Blair, Nebraska, in 1996 when he took a position at Blair Community Hospital.He began working at Methodist Hospital in Omaha in 2001.He found the greatest joy in his career with the position he held at the time of his death with the Caregiver Support Program of the Veterans Health Administration. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marie; his sons, Mark (Tammie) Missell of Omaha, and Kevin (Kassie) Missell of Rockwall, Texas; granddaughter, Kylee (3); grandson, Kyle (1); his sister, Joyce (Dallas) Jensen of Delta, Colorado; his mother-in-law, Lillian Kruger of Aberdeen, South Dakota, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Selma Nissen and Gloria Jean Goeshel, his nephews, James Nissen and Ronald Jensen and his niece, Donna Jensen.
