Richard (Dick) Lewis was born February 19, 1933 in Moline, IL.His parents, Cary and Pyrle Lewis, had four children and raised the family in Moline.Dick graduated from Moline High School and participated in football, basketball and track.He originally was training to be a carpenter until one of his high school teachers convinced him to attend college.He attended Nebraska Wesleyan where he played football and met his lovely wife, Donna Busekist.Dick and Donna were married on August 1, 1953 in Gretna, NE. Dick’s college was interrupted by the Army where he served two years.He returned and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan and began his teaching career in Doniphan, NE.Dick moved the family to Millard, NE in 1960 when he took a job as teacher, coach and principal of Millard Junior-Senior High School.He became the Assistant Superintendent for Business of Millard Public Schools in 1970 and retired in 1994 after 34 years with the district.Dick was very proud of the work that Don Stroh, Ron Witt and he did in growing Millard Public School District.Dick was also proud of the community work he accomplished in starting the Millard Athletic Association, and he was a proud member of Millard Lion’s Club.In retirement, Dick served on the Immanuel Board. Dick and Donna had three sons. Craig (Yvonne), Curt (Lisa) and Doug (Patty).They have six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Dick enjoyed spending time with family.He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his yearly fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada.He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed fixing everything around the house.Dick was always there to help anyone in need no matter the time of day or the task to be done.He was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed all sports. Dick is preceded in death by his brother Donald and sisters, Marilynn and Bette.Dick is survived by his Wife of 67 years, Donna Lewis; Sons Craig (Yvonne) Lewis; Curt (Lisa) Lewis; Doug (Patty) Lewis; Grandchildren: Joseph, Heather, Adam, Chad, Aron and Caitlin.
