Richard "Dick" Dickes

March 24, 1948 — September 30, 2018

DICKES, Richard “Dick” 3/24/1948 – 9/30/2018 Age 70 years of Omaha Richard “Dick” was born in Sioux City, Iowa and was raised across the river in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He attended Emerson Sacred Heart high school. He started work as a paperboy when he was 8. He was the proud recipient of a special award and traveled to Switzerland to meet Jimmy Dean. He was a jet-setter at 15! He graduated from Rockhurst College in Kansas City with a degree in history. Dick was an outdoor enthusiast. He loved canoeing down the Missouri River, fishing, hiking, and of course his beloved cycling. He and his bike went on many trips all over the country: Colorado, Wyoming, Wisconsin and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. He loved to involve his kids in these activities as well; taking his son on RAGBRAI, and his daughters on shorter rides around Omaha. No weekend trip was ever done without bikes in tow. Dick’s other passion was music; concerts, records, and big speakers! Dick had a strong work ethic as a Journeyman Plumber and was always willing to help anyone with a plumbing issue. He worked hard up to the end of his life, but always took time for his family and loved them well. He always had a smile and a cookie for his visiting grandkids. His bear hugs were well-known and anyone blessed to receive one will never forget it. He was a great gift giver and enjoyed sharing his love of high quality american-made products with his family and friends. His children have enough wool socks to last for years! Dick has touched the lives of so many around him and his presence here will be greatly missed.
