Dick was born in Omaha NE and spent his early days in Gretna on his uncle’s farm. He and his brothers had a love for motorcycles and cars. He was a self-taught mechanic. He could repair anything with a motor. He taught mechanics at Metro Tech for a time, he was a car salesman and demoed diagnostic equipment and electronic ignitions. From the start, he always had a garage, shed, or workshop to work out of. During his last years, he set up a bicycle repair shop at his home in Valley to ensure that any kid that wanted a bicycle could have one. He loved the outdoors and spent many years managing Lake Platteview in Venice. He enjoyed fishing and keeping the park looking it’s best. He was always trading parts, tools, or anything that could be re-used or recycled. He always had a recipient in mind for his great finds! He was a practical jokester since day one. Anybody that was a favorite surely had a prank pulled on them at some point. Dick lived the life that he wanted. He had many friends and acquaintances. Someone was always seeking him out for his assistance and friendship. In his words, ‘I lived through the best of times’. He will be greatly missed.
