Phillip Linn South passed away April 23rd, 2021. Phil was born July 17, 1957 in Mount Ayr, Iowa to Howard and Merle South. He grew up outside Arispe, Iowa on the family farm. Phil graduated from East Union High School in 1975 and went on to get his Associate’s Degree in Diesel Mechanics from Southwestern Community College. Phil dedicated the next 20 years of his life to farming before attending Graceland University for his Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Technology. Phil met Nancy (Selig) in 2003 and married on August 21, 2009. Phil and Nancy resided in Ogden, Iowa for 11 years while working as a Revenue Auditor for the Iowa Department of Transportation before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 2018 to be closer to their 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren. Phil had great love for farming, caring for livestock, and was an active member of the community for many years. He really enjoyed fishing, antiquing, restored antique vehicles, and had several collections. Phil completely restored a 1970 Chevy C-10 Shortbox that was his pride and joy. He liked to grocery shop and surprise the grandchildren with treats, but always made sure he was getting a “good deal”. Phil’s love for Nancy, and his stepchildren and grandchildren were of utmost importance in his life, he would drop anything to help his family. Phil’s ability to look on the sunny side, call a spade a spade, give everyone a hard time and make them laugh was what made him the wonderful man this world lost and that we will all miss so much. He was the kindest, most reliable man and always made people feel welcome and special. Phil was preceded in death by his father Howard South and brother Steve South and is survived by his mother Merle South, his wife Nancy, and their children Tyler (Julie) Bartels, Danielle (Ed) Raney, Shamree (Brett) Baller, 10 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Private services will be held at Voss Mohr Cemetery. A public celebration of Phil’s life will take place on his birthday, July 17th, 2021 from 5-7:00pm at their home in Omaha (13917 Edna St).
