Perry L. Shappell

June 9, 1958 — January 4, 2020

Perry Shappell, 61, dies January 4, 2020 at CHI Health Lakeside after a short illness. A memorial service will be held at Braman Mortuary on January 9th at 11:00am with family receiving visitors an hour prior at 10:00am. Perry will be laid to rest at Omaha National Cemetery where full military rites will be given. Perry was born July 9th, 1958 in Dubuque, Iowa to Lyle and Julia Shappell. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1976. After graduation Perry enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served from 1976-1997 as a Weather Superintendent and served in the Persian Gulf War. Upon retirement from the USAF as a Master Sergent, Perry then attended Metropolitan Community College where he earned his Associate’s Degree in horticulture with honors in 2006. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Science Degree at Bellevue University in 2007. Perry was a quiet man and enjoyed his family, gardening, traveling, and meeting new friends. He devoted much of his time and energy as a member of the Millard Jaycees and spend some time service as a chapter president, where he was given several awards for his distinguished and unselfish services given to the Jaycee movement whole service with outstanding leadership, vision, and ability. Perry is survived by his brothers, John (Theresa), Lyle (Amanda); sisters Evelyn Reifsteck, Mary (Brian) Fullerton, Melissa (Joel) Perkins, Lisa Shappell; and several nieces and nephews. He will be forever loved and is now safely home.
