GOEBEL, Paul Jackson January 2, 1937 ~ April 20, 2018 Paul Jackson Goebel, age 81, of Omaha, passed away April 20, 2018. He was born January 2, 1937, in Sutherland, Nebraska, to Paul Albert and Rachel Fischer Goebel. Paul was highly recognized in the Omaha area, especially the culinary community He was food and beverage certified and hotel management certified from Holiday Inn University. He was an apprentice for four years. He was co-founder of the Omaha Hospitality Hall of Fame; president of the Omaha Culinary Association; member and president of the Omaha Restaurant Association; commander and secretary for the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque; hospitality consultant, executive chef and general manager at Holiday Inn, Villager Motor Inn, New Tower Inn and Midwest Food Service. He received the Nebraska Lodging Association Dani Powers Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque. Most recently, he served as the culinary outreach specialist at Metropolitan Community College. Paul was a focused and hard worker, a true small-town boy who made his dreams come true. He tempered his gruffness with a great sense of humor. He loved the ladies, and to our confusion, the ladies loved him. He loved to impart his knowledge and was a respected teacher. Paul was an active member of the Catholic church where he strove to strengthen his relationships with God and men and find peace in his life. Survivors include his sons, Nathan Goebel of Ogallala, Nebraska – and his children, Jonathan Goebel, Brandy Goebel and Ashley Peeples – and grandchildren, Brayden Mullins, Joey, Topanga and Jace Goebel, Xavier Danos, and Jazzy and Larry Peeples; Anthony (Vicki) Goebel of Chicago, Illinois – and his son, Jason Goebel; Christopher Goebel of Merced, California; Gregory (Carol) Goebel of Nebraska City, Nebraska – and their children, Joshua and Nichole Goebel; and Brian (Janel) Goebel of Colfax, Washington – and their children, Joshua and Ashley Goebel; daughter, Jennifer Schaat of Frederick, Colorado – and her children, Hope, Henry and Holden Schaat; brothers, Joseph (Joyce) Goebel of Las Vegas, Nevada; David (Carol) Goebel of Ogallala, Nebraska; and Michael (Karen) Goebel of Irvine, Texas; and sister, Sandra Frame of Julesburg, Colorado. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, social workers, legal aid and other staff members at Methodist Hospital who cared for Paul in his final days and showed great consideration for our family. We also wish to thank Paul’s friends for reaching out to us and sharing their condolences.
