Patrick J. McGranahan, 78, passed away on April 4, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. A proud veteran, devoted family man, and respected professional, Patrick's life was marked by service, humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Born on March 1, 1947, in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Patrick was the son of Maurice McGranahan and Marvel (AJ) Masuen. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and resilience that would guide him throughout his life. From 1966 to 1971, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Victnam War-a chapter that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong commitment to integrity and perseverance.
After his military service, Patrick pursued higher education at Westmar College in La Mars, IA, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing in 1975. He went on to build a successful career in insurance litigation, where his sharp mind and strong work ethic carned him respect among colleagues and clients alike.
Patrick shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Diane. Together they raised two daughters Melissa Weston and Megan McGranahan---who brought immense pride and joy into his life. He also cherished his role as father-in-law to Jason Weston and grandfather to Caiden Wortman and Graeme Weston. His family was the heart of his world.
Patrick's love extended beyond his immediate family. He held close bonds with his sister Cindi (Mark) Crowley; sister-in-law Marilyn McGranahan; special nephew Todd (Cindy) McGranahan; brother-in-law Dennis (Janelle) Reichling; sister-in-laws, Jan (Reichling) Brown, Joan (Reichling) Klein, Cheryl (Reichling) Colvin; and many nieces and nephews who were touched by his warmth and wit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Michael McGranahan and Tom MeGranahan; in-laws Leonard and Mary Reichling: grandmothers Margaret Vollink and Hattie Pillsbury; brother-in-law Jim Brown; brother-in-law Chuck Klein; and sister-in-law Alice Klein Reichling.
Patrick had a great sense of humor that could light up any room. His wit was quick but kindhearted -always bringing laughter without ever diminishing others. He found joy in simple pleasures: coaching his daughters' softball teams, umpiring for MAA for many years, casting a line while fishing or heading out on hunting trips. He enjoyed playing solitaire, watching funny movies that made him laugh out loud, and never missed an episode of Jeopardy.
