Patricia A. "Patty" Hansen

Patricia “Patty” A. Hansen (Hard) Patty was born on May 16, 1956 to Charlie J. and Rosanna Hard in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the youngest of three children, having an older brother, Steve, and an older sister, Diane. Patty graduated from Omaha Northwest High School in 1974. She attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, and later obtained two Master’s Degrees. On August 4, 1978, she married David (Dave) Hansen. Together they had one son, Conrad. Patty was a public-school teacher for 35 years, with the majority of her time spent at Omaha South High School. She taught Special Education, was a Special Education Administrator, and in 2006 became a Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher. Patty had a true passion for sewing and wanted to pass that knowledge along to all of her students who she taught and cared about. Patty was instrumental in beginning the Fashion Design Show at Omaha South High School for students interested in a career in fashion and design. She also shared her love of sewing with her family and friends, creating beautiful clothing, doll outfits, and in the spring of 2020: masks. In 2018, Patty retired from teaching to focus her time on her favorite pass times: cooking, sewing and gardening. Patty also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her two granddaughters, Emily and Allison. In early 2020, Patty was diagnosed with ALS. Even though the disease was crippling to her body, she continued to pursue her passions, including taking a trip to Disney World with her son and his family in September of 2020. On April 16, 2021, Patty passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side. She is preceded in death by her husband, David, her sister Diane, and her mother and father. She is survived by her son, Conrad, his wife Liz, and their two daughters Emily and Allison, her brother, Steve, as well as many friends and family. An in-person Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 21, at 10:30 AM at Spirit of Faith Church (740 N. 129th Street).
