Patricia Ann Mcgonigal

November 1, 1938 — October 1, 2021

McGonigal, Patricia Ann (Murphy) 11/1/1938 – 10/1/2021 Patricia was born on All Saints Day, November 1, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank and Hanna Murphy and shortly after, her family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. She attended St. Adalbert and Holy Cross grade schools, St. Mary’s, and was the first graduating class of Mercy High School in 1956. Pat loved to reminisce about her childhood. She proudly shared stories of how she would walk or take the bus everywhere, going to the movies, ice skating at Hanscom Park, and visiting her cousins. She learned to play the accordion but had to carry it with her to lessons across town. These experiences are what laid the foundation for Pat to grow into a strong, grateful and resilient woman. She loved to have fun and enjoyed being around people. For many years she was very active in neighborhood clubs and parish organizations. She made many lifelong friends through her involvement in Garden Club, a Bunco group, Bridge group, Christian Mothers, playing volleyball and cafeteria duty at St. James, and ran the concession stand for Keystone Little League. Pat was always eager to volunteer and gracious with her time and talents. She was a Girl Scout leader for Christine and Cathy for many years. She organized outings for the girls, campouts and trips, including Washington DC and a backpacking trip across Europe. She was so resourceful, while at a campsite in Europe made a birthday cake for a co-leader over a campfire! She loved scouting and continued outdoor backpack training for other Girl Scout leaders. There’s a scouting promise that you never leave a campsite like you found it; but rather, you leave it better than you found it. Pat did that in her own life. After raising her children, Pat started a professional career with not one, but two jobs. She earned her insurance license and worked at Nebraska Furniture Mart for 25 years, becoming a proud member of “The Blumkin Club.” She led by example for her family that hard work and determination are the cornerstones of good character. As if she wasn’t busy enough, on one of her “free” nights, Pat attended a dance at the South Omaha VFW where she met her husband, Bernie. They enjoyed their golden years traveling, watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and doing fun things together. Pat always had a sense of duty, great faith and a heart of gold. She loved to laugh and be with her family. There are no words to express how much she will be missed. Rest in peace. We love you. Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Bernard McGonigal; Children: Christine (James) O’Hara, Timothy Krapp, Cathleen (Robert) Kalama; Grandchildren: Sean, Kaitlin (Greg), Erin (Jake), Megan (Mike), Nate, Nikki; Great Grandchildren: Owen, Brooke; Many other relatives and friends.
