Patricia Ann “Pat” Dargantes was born in Blockton, IA to Lenore and Christe Hillers. She attended Blockton then Bedford schools; after graduation, she attended Northwest Missouri State University and received chemistry and math degrees.Pat became a Peace Corps volunteer in 1965, travelling to the Philippines. There she met the love of her life, Del; they married and returned to the States, settling in the Omaha area. Pat was a medical technician in Omaha, teacher in Ashland, and for 20 years was an instructor as part of UNO’s Teaching and Computing Information Systems. She taught hundreds of people math, chemistry, and intro to computing classes as well as Blackboard. She was an educator through and through and loved it. Pat and Del purchased land near Glenwood IA, and created their beloved hobby farm, where they cultivated acres of gardens, raised hundreds of chickens, peacocks, guineas, and small animals like goats and pigs. They enjoyed sharing their place with anyone and everyone. They also were oftentimes the first people to lend a helping hand, bring food, or offer support to those who needed it. Pat had many creative outlets, two of which were cake decorating and machine quilting. She created intricately beautiful wedding cakes and quilts. She also baked and cooked;Pat’s fried rice was legendary. And she loved yellow, especially flowers. But the most important part of her life was her grandchildren; Leah (22), Luke (20), Molly (12), and Jack (12). Pat and Del made many road trips to see the kids in Minnesota, then many more into Omaha for music programs, ball games, cross country meets, band competitions, gymnastic meets… you name it, they attended.Never complaining, always present, and glad to be supporting the kids. It is impossible to count how many people Pat touched with her teaching, creativity, kindness and love. Pat was preceded in death by husband Del her parents and brother Johnny. She leaves behind two brothers, Joe(Val) and Bert (Maxine) Hillers; her beloved daughter, Della (Tom), and four grandchildren; many cousins; and dear friends.
