In Loving Memory of Orlo Steven Mundorf.
Orlo Steven Mundorf, 61, of Griswold, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Known for his outlandish tales that often left you thinking, “No way!”— but his stories were likely 99% true, making them all the more unforgettable. His boisterous laugh was contagious, filling hearts with joy wherever he went.
A true shark of a salesman, Orlo could sell anything (hay, siding, solar panels, siding, bathroom remodels) and make you feel like you got a great deal when you didn’t. His smooth talking, wit, and determination were unmatched, making him a force to be reckoned with in any room.
Though he never married, Orlo loved his family fiercely. He was known to his nieces and nephews as “Fat Uncle Orlo”, treated them as his own (Jacob, Jordan, Sabra, Larse, Maren, Alex, Lauren, Ryan, Travis, Seth, Caleb, Caitlin) and cherished them deeply, always supporting and encouraging them with his signature warmth and humor. He exposed them to words when they were way too young, making his siblings cringe.
Orlo was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, embodying kindness and generosity. A loyal friend for life, he never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t yet made. Once you met him, you would never forget him—his presence was unforgettable.
He also had a love for the simple joys in life: a cold beer, a good whiskey, and a heartfelt toast to the things that matter. An avid reader and history buff, Orlo immersed himself in the past to uncover its lessons and stories. In honor of Orlo, raise a glass, share a story, and keep his memory alive.
Orlo was preceded in death by his father Calvin Mundorf, grandparents: Ella & Ogden Sherwood “O.S.” Mundorf, Olive & Theodore “Fred” Riepe; Uncles and Aunts: Edwin and Fran Mundorf, Everett and Ethel Mae Mundorf, Neil Mundorf, Larry Mundorf, Glen Kirchoff, Willis and Lue Merrit, Carl and Ruth Laverty, Curtis Laverty, Pual Laverty; Dorothy Mundorf, Eloise and Mel Purdue, Hazel Futrell, Shirley Thomas, and sister Marcia Renner. He is survived by his mother Phyllis Mundorf; siblings Bernajean Porter, Debra Hutton (Berlin Collins), Brigette (Kerwin) Van Houten, Bev (Hank) Jessen, Barney (Pam) Mundorf and Aunts Mary Ann Kirchoff, Linda Mundorf, special cousins Lori Sue Watson and Mindy Harrison, and many nephews, nieces and special friends.
