Mike Brooks

Mike Brooks, 81, of Omaha, passed away on December 5, 2022.

Mike was born in Lawrence, KS on December 26, 1940 to George and Helen (Hunn) Brooks. Mike grew up in Coffeyville, KS where he met and married his lifelong love and best friend, Patti (Powers) in 1960.

After graduating with a Masters Degree in Counseling, Mike and Patti moved to Omaha in 1969 where he spent his career with Westside Community Schools - District 66 at Westbrook Junior High and Westside Middle School.

Mike was known for his quiet faith in Christ and freely giving of his time, talents and resources. From an early age, Mike was always doing things to help others in need. It’s not uncommon to run into former students, fellow educators, neighbors and friends who share stories of how Mike helped them through a difficult situation or invited them for a meal. Mike took a genuine interest in everyone and was a mentor to many. He was always doing things for someone, like clearing snow or mowing for neighbors, picking up and delivering groceries, or helping to complete home-repair projects, small and large. Mike loved to do for others without expecting anything in return.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Patti, both parents and his brother. He will be greatly missed by his sons Jay (Barbara) of Grand Rapids, MI, grandchildren Sarah (Doug) Adams of Rockvale, TN (and great-granddaughter Emmalyn), Hannah (Josh) Kloosterman of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Caleb of Nashville, TN; Jon (Bridget) of Omaha, and many friends.

Per Mike’s wishes, there will be no services.
