Michael Ray Macrander

MACRANDER, Michael R. 7/12/1960 – 12/1/2020 Although Mike’s life was cut short by COVID-19, he lived a full and satisfying life in his 60 years. Mike was a very intelligent and well-read man. He had a quick sense of humor, ranging from friendly sarcasm to bad puns to brilliant one-liners. Mike worked with people with developmental disabilities, helping them achieve their goals and advocating for their rights. The lives of the people he supported on the job were enhanced by having Mike in their lives. Mike was an avid gardener. He transformed a yard that was a neglected jungle when he moved, in ten years ago, into a beautiful paradise full of flowers, bushes, and a fire pit area that Mike set up to enjoy with his wife, grandchildren, and friends. Mike was a devoted grandpa to his five grand-children. When they were young, he regularly made them green eggs and ham, made s’mores with them at the fire pit, took them out for ice cream and to their favorite “Purple Park.” As they grew older, he encouraged them to pursue their education and other goals. Mike was a very ethical man living his life according to his principles. He always made a point to vote in every election. He shared his political viewpoints on Facebook, and never held back, which resulted in several stints in “Facebook Jail.” Mike was very loving and loyal to his family and friends. He will be missed by his wife, daughters, brother, grandchildren, and many devoted friends. We can all take comfort from the fact that he lived his life to the fullest. Preceded in death by, parents, Ray & Carolyn Macrander Survived by: wife, Jane (Glover) Macrander; daughters, Vickie (Terry) Dishman & Stacey Collier; brother, Matt (Kathy) Macrander; grandchildren, Amalia Doty, Nickthaniel, Marcus, Elijah & AvaRae Wells; many other family and friends. A virtual celebration of Mike’s life will be announced to close family & friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be used in Mike’s honor.
