Mike was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 20th, 1953. He was one of seven children born to his beloved parents, Paul & Geraldine (Jeri). He attended school at Holy Angels, St. Richards, Rummel High School, and then graduated with a finance degree from University of Nebraska at Omaha.

He is Survived by his sister, Pam Beardmore (Dave); brothers, Richard Langenegger, Steve Langenegger (Patti), Pat Langenegger, Tom Langenegger; close friend, Dave Egan; significant other, Kathy Clavin and many nieces, nephews and friends
Mike was passionate about two things: Jesus and baseball. According to his best friend, Dave Egan, he would sometimes jokingly merge the two passions into the phrase, “In the Big-Inning.”
Coach Mike, as many knew him, once told me that he had coached baseball for nearly 50 years. At the time of his passing he was coaching for Pacesetter’s with his nephew Paul Langenegger. He truly considered his team as his family.
Coach Mike was often known for using his own money to purchase gloves, bats, uniforms, etc… for his players that needed them. His younger brother, Richard, remembers gifting Coach Mike a camera at one point. He said he would use it to take a team photo of each of his teams and also to take a photo of each player so that he could always remember them.
When players would face difficulty on or off the diamond, Mike was concerned, first and foremost, about the person and less about winning. Winning baseball was secondary. Doing things the right way mattered. Having a right relationship with Christ mattered most.
One of Mike’s favorite Scriptures was Micah 6:8
He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
This verse describes Mike to a T. So does this one:
“… the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…”
Galatians 5:22-23
Mike had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus, his Lord and Savior. He was a long-time member of Christians Encounter Christ, a Catholic community focused on bringing people into a deeper relationship with Christ. He formed many strong relationships over his years working on these retreats.
Up until his passing, he would meet every Monday at St. Leo’s with his CEC small-group where they would pray and share with each other how they came to know Christ better, love Christ better, and serve Christ better over the past week. They would also a share a moment where they felt closest to Christ. His CEC bothers & sisters love him and will miss him immensely.
Coach Mike had a saying. When one of his players would make great contact with the baseball he would say “You really dotted it up!” Well Mike, we have tremendous hope in Christ that you will be “dotting it up” in heaven.
Father in heaven, please grant eternal joy, peace, and happiness to our dear friend, Mike Langenegger. You know how much he has meant to so many of us.
He’s coming around third base and sprinting for home. Bring him home, Lord. Bring him home. I ask this in name of the Father, and in the name of Jesus, the Christ, his son, and of the Holy Spirit. God, forever and ever. Amen.
