BARKER, Mary J. (Skellenger) age 84 years of Omaha.She passed away Sunday 2/19/12 in the Omaha Methodist Hospital from cancer. Mary Jeanne was born 11/17/27 at the Benson Hospital in Omaha, NE to Edward and Helen Skellenger. Eddie and Helen built their home in Omaha in 1927 and raised their two children Robert H. Skellenger and Mary Jeanne Skellenger where they attended their schooling at Benson grade and high school. Mary Jeanne in the earlier years married Ralph Barker and they lived in Cedar Rapids for 8 years. Upon their divorce, Mary Jeanne moved back to Omaha with her folks and began her long years of work with Mutual of Omaha for 35 years as a claims supervisor. She traveled throughout the U.S. teaching new Mutual of Omaha employees that were opening branches in other States. Upon retiring she took care of her father, mother, and aunt Georgia until their deaths. Mary Jeanne is survived by nephew, Terry E. Skellenger and wife Deb’e and two children, Tosha and Mandy; nephew, Jay A. Skellenger who has two children, Dylan and Makenzie. They loved their aunt Mary. Sister-in-law, Anita E. Swope of Polsom, MT. Mary was preceded in death by parents, Ed and Helen Skellenger in 1982; brother, Robert Skellenger. She also touched many dear friends. She dearly loved her church, Benson Presbyterian, where she sung in the choir, attended bible studies, and also did volunteer work.
