BURRELL, Martin G. 3/3/1935 – 10/6/2017 Age 82 years of Omaha Marty Burrell was born at home, March 3 1935 in Omaha, NE. to Edwin and Hilda Burrell, he was the youngest of 8, the baby of the family. He said many times he was born at a very early age. He was also very proud of his Swedish ancestry and always had a Swedish joke ready to tell. He graduated from Tech High in 1953 and joined the navy reserves which turned into active duty. He met Carrol, the love of his life in June 1957. In September of 1957 he bought the car of his dreams:1957 red and white Bel Air Chevy convertible, with fender skirts, for $ 2568.00.Today, that car is worth around $150,000.00.Who would have known?After a whirlwind romance, he proposed to Carrol Petersen in December 1957. They married in April 1958 in Reno Nevada before he left for overseas.They have three children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He and his brother Ed, built a boat together in 1956 (still have that boat) and taught many of his friends and family to water ski.He then learned at the good old age of 57 to snow ski and loved to go to the mountains with his family to ski yearly. He was an avid Husker fan and would shout words of encouragement (or despair) at the tv. He went to as many games as he could.He enjoyed the last two games he went to this fall with his kids and grand-kids. He also loved traveling with his beloved bride, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends. Marty had a very strong faith in God and Jesus as his Savior. He was active at Calvary Lutheran Church for several years and for the last 30 plus years he was active at Christ is Lord Church. He enjoyed interacting with the Tech High class of '53 reunion committee and getting together with his old neighborhood gang. He worked at Continental Can Company/Crown Cork and Seal for 43 years retiring in 1997. Later in the year he found out he had Non Hodgkin Lymphoma and doctors gave him 8-10 years to live. Jesus came to him and said "That is not my timeline". Then in November of 2014 the Non Hodgkin Lymphoma mutated to an aggressive form and he lived the next years so determined to live life to the fullest. His motto was “Never give up” and he didn't.He trusted his Heavenly Father to take care of him. He went to be with Jesus early in the morning on Carrol’s birthday, October 6, 2017 and bless his loving heart, he sent flowers to the house, which arrived later that day, for her birthday.It had 3 white roses, one for each child and 9 red roses, one for each grandchild and one tulip for a kiss. He always said from my two lips to your two lips. He is preceded in death by parents and brothers David, Robert, Kenneth and sisters Alta and Mary Lou He is survived by his wife Carrol of 60 blessed and wonderful years.Children: Skip, Jeanette Leffler (Gerry) and Mark (Moreen), Grandchildren: Nicole Colwell (Craig), Brandon (Mikala), Katelynn (Alan), Amanda, Austin, Anna, Fairy, Daniel and Izzy. Great- grandchildren: Grayson and Savannah. Sister Helen and brother Ed (Barb) and many relatives and friends.
