ACKLAND, Mark R. 11/7/1962 – 12/29/2018 Mark Ronald Ackland was born and raised in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area. He lived in a very ethnic community. His Czechoslovakian speaking grandparents lived in his home with the family. He loved Cleveland sports and great lake living. He graduated from Miami of Ohio where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He loved his time there and had great memories of being a Fiji. Mark loved family and especially Christmas. His favorite thing to do was to give gifts. It gave him such joy. He also loved to push people's buttons and be a bit of a smart mouth. He was a die hard republican and enjoyed sparring about politics. The sparring was so fun. He especially loved sparring with his children. They have all learned to give it right back to him and he was so proud of that. He wanted them to be smart and be able to speak their minds. They have all far exceeded his hopes. He worked diligently to pass on his love of sports to his children, nephews and nieces. Football, baseball and golf were his favorites but when they weren't available he would watch soccer, rugby and pretty much anything. Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians ruled. He did have a great respect for the Kansas City Chiefs and shared that with his son Dylan and his nephew Christopher. Mark's favorite meal was a bohemian old world dinner of pork, dumplings and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes and gravy. He called it his "birthday meal". His grandmother would make it for him when he was growing up. He was always so grateful when his mother in law made it for him. He would eat until he felt ill but savored every bite. It reminded him of home and his childhood. His favorite possession was a wooden statue of an Indian maiden from a cigar store. She was a family heirloom brought with him from Cleveland. Mark retired from Werner Enterprises 8 years ago where he was the senior director of Risk Management. He loved the challenge of risk management but truly enjoyed spending the last 8 years at home as a stay home father for his children. He helped his wife through nursing school and supported her in her new career goals. He was very proud of the all of the accomplishments of his children and his wife. Mark is survived by his wife Glenda Ackland; Children: Michael Shallenberger & wife Shelby; Dylan, Misty and Cody Ackland; many other relatives and friends.
