Margaret Ann (Culp) Bradley went to her heavenly home on October 15, 2024. Margaret was born on December 17, 1929 in Ashland, Kansas to John F. and Lucina Frances (Smith) Culp. She moved to Greensburg when she was in the fifth grade and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1948. She attended Kansas University one year before returning to Greensburg where she married her high school sweetheart, James E (Gene) Bradley in 1950. They were blessed with three children, Barb, Jay, and Cathy. She always referred to them as her “Triplets one year apart.” They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Gene passed away in 2012.
Margaret was a stay-at-home mom until she went to work in the lab at the hospital to help put her children through college. After her children were finished with college, she went to school in Wichita for a year to become a Certified Lab Assistant. She then returned to Kiowa County Memorial Hospital where she worked for a total of 40 years.
Margaret always had a servant heart—always serving wherever and whomever she could, especially her children and grandchildren. She served her children in many ways such as being a boy scout and girl scout leader – and oh the stories we could tell. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to sew and often would design outfits putting multiple patterns together. After retiring she did mending for anyone who asked, volunteered at the school listening to kindergarteners read, in the hospital daycare rocking the babies, and playing with the toddlers.
Margaret and Gene were avid sports fans. They attended all of their children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, even traveling to Omaha. Later they followed all of their favorite teams, such as KU, K-State, Royals, Chiefs, you name it. One of Margaret’s favorite activities was attending the many Eastern Star gatherings with friends from all over the state. The highlight was being a sponsor, along with Gene, for the Kansas Masonic All-State Marching Band Camp held in conjunction with the Kansas Shrine Bowl game every summer.
A life-changing event was the Greensburg Tornado of 2007 in which they lost their home of over 40 years. Although it was very challenging, they were determined to pick up the pieces and rebuild—because Greensburg was their home. Six years ago she made the difficult decision to sell her home and move to Omaha to live with her daughter, Barb.
Margaret is survived by her three children, Barb Bradley of Omaha, NE, Jay (Reba) Bradley of Pueblo West, CO, and Cathy (Gene) McFall of Manhattan, KS., 11 grandchildren, and multiple great grandchildren.
A celebration of Margaret's life will be held in Greensburg, KS in the spring of 2025. Memorials are suggested to the Kiowa County Senior Center, Greensburg Methodist Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church (Omaha), and Kiowa County Memorial Hospital. For more details, visit bramanmortuary.com
