Mable Joan Klauzer was born, February 1st, 1928 to Ralph & Ruth Spangler in the family farm house during a winter storm. She grew up on the farm and attended a small country elementary school and eventually earned her diploma at Climbing Hill High School. Throughout her life, Mable was also known by her middle name, Joan (pronounced Joanne). In 1947, she traveled to Chicago with one of her girlfriends and they briefly worked for Western Union and then returned to Sioux City, Iowa. A few years later she was working at a Christian book store in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. While in Omaha, she met the love of her life, Thomas Klauzer of Mill Iron, Montana. They married and had four children: Mary, Randolph “Randy”, Amy & Frederick “Fred”. In addition to raising their own children, Tom and Joan also fostered many newborn babies and toddlers. As a family, they actively attended church & participated in church activities. Every evening, the family gathered around the dining room table to enjoy Joan’s homemade meals. Being the excellent cook that she was, Joan hosted many birthday parties & holiday gatherings. When summer rolled around, the family went on vacations. Some of those adventures being to the Black Hills of South Dakota, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, and Potoato Lake in Minnesota. After Tom retired, they took the RV on many camping trips with their camping club and grandchildren. Joan was an avid reader & enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She loved to play cards and board games with anyone that would gather round the table. Win or lose, fun was had by all. Joan also enjoyed crocheting. She made numerous sleeping mats (using grocery bags as “yarn”) and hats (with actual yarn) which were distributed to homeless individuals. To add to her long list of skills, Joan was a very talented seamstress. In later years, when not able to attend church in person, she continued to participate in worship through TV services. Right up to the end of her life, Joan had an active mind & a sense of humor. But most importantly, Joan had a love of God, her family & her friends. Joan was preceded in death by husband, Thomas Klauzer; parents, Ralph & Ruth Spangler; sisters, Odetta Christensen & Vera Roy; brother, Leland Spangler. Those left to celebrate the beautiful life of Joan are: sons, Randolph “Randy” Klauzer & Frederick “Fred” (Cheri) Klauzer; daughters: Mary Klauzer & Amy (Ed) Doherty; sisters, Mattie Chance & Dena Vogstrom; 5 grandchildren: Troy & Ben Dillon, Jason, Leland & Angel Klauzer; 8 great grandchildren.
