Lyal C. Lura, a Vietnam veteran who served in the Navy for 21 years, passed away on January 22, 2019, at Lakeside Hospital. Lyal was deeply devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, and to his extended family here in the States and in Japan. He is survived by Akemi Lura, his beloved wife of 55 years. He leaves behind his daughters Connie and Janet (Kirk), and three grandchildren: Kimmie, Alex, and Sam. He is also survived by his brother Michael (Carolyn), and his nieces Sara (Chris) and Erin (Chris). In Japan, Lyal is survived by many nieces and nephews, and by his brothers-in-law Akira and Yutaka, and his sisters-in-law Shigeko, Yoko, and Leiko. He was preceded in death by his father Orris, his mother Judith, and his brother Terry, and also his sister-in-law Junko of Japan. Lyal, who was born on July 19, 1942, in Forest City, Iowa, served in the Navy from July 22, 1959 to Oct. 31, 1980. His rank was Master-at-Arms Senior Chief (MASC). Among the other titles he held were Sales Manager in the home office department of Nebraska Furniture Mart, and Director of Security and Safety at Methodist Hospital, where he worked for 15 years.
