Lloyd W Cardwell was born February 24,1941 the only child of Lloyd R Cardwell and Beth Hunter Cardwell in Detroit Michigan. The Cardwell family moved to Nebraska in 1943 when Lloyd’s father retired from the Detroit Lions and became a coach at UNO. In 1954 the Cardwell family was able to visit the White House when the UNO football team made it to the Tangerine Bowl.
Lloyd graduated from Benson high school in 1959. While attending Benson high he held numerous track and field records that he continued to hold for many years after graduation. Upon graduation Lloyd attended UNO where he played football his first 4 years followed by track and field his last 2 years. Upon completion of college Lloyd began training wrestlers at YMCA along with numerous other positions until he found his lifelong career in the electrical supply business retiring from Echo Electric in 2020. In his prime he enjoyed Disco dancing and the old fashioned jitter bug.
Lloyd and Karen reconnected at their 30th high school reunion and were married two years later. Lloyd loved his transition into a big family with many kids and grandkids. As the years passed Lloyd enjoyed watching all of the grandkids grow up and great grandkids being born. In their free time Lloyd and Karen enjoyed traveling with friends to numerous locations with some of his favorites being Morocco, Portugal and Paris. He also enjoyed a long weekend in Downtown Las Vegas. Time spent at home was always filled with family and friends. Lloyd loved having people over for visits in the house that they built together in 1999.
Lloyd enjoyed watching all sports and could recite statistics for every player starting in junior high. He would enjoy when the grandsons would ask him questions about sports and sports history. He loved watching movies like drumline and pitch perfect. He never turned down a dessert or a tall glass of lemonade. Lloyd passed peacefully in his home the morning of August 10, 2022 and is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
