Linda Sun Yong Hill

February 23, 1934 — October 10, 2023

Linda "Sun Yong" Hill 2/23/1934 - 10/10/2023 Mother and Grandmother Linda “Sun Yong” Hill, 89, of Omaha Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2023. Mother was surrounded by her children, Erick, Cheryl, and Ron, at the time she passed. Mother was born on February 23rd, 1934 to Heung Son Chon and Dae Ton Kim in the city of Buyeo, CheongNam, South Korea. In Korea, and lived and worked in the city of Seoul/Kimpo. She married Mr Norman Betts and moved to the United States in December of 1969. Omaha/Council Bluffs was home and it is where she worked and raised her three sons and one daughter. Second son Norman Jr passed away unexpectedly in 1987 at age 17. Mother began working at Frito Lay in Council Bluffs as soon as she arrived in the States. Mother mainly worked in the production line making corn chips which was a brand-new product introduced by Frito Lay. For over 20 years she worked at Frito Lay and made many close friends and won awards for being an excellent employee. Mother was appreciative of the company because they gave her the opportunity and training even though her English was limited at the time. Mother did not like depending on others to drive her to work so she learned how to drive. Getting a driver's license was a major accomplishment for her and it gave her the independence needed to go to work and also to socialize with her friends. Mother's favorite pastime and hobby was playing Bingo. She knew where all the Bingo halls were, how much they paid out, and what the chances of winning were at each Bingo Hall. She won numerous grand prizes so it was evident that she did her homework. Mother frequently took her grandchildren to play Bingo with her. It was at Bingo where she met her late husband Robert Hill. Mother regularly attended the Korean Presbyterian Church of Omaha for 40 years and mother was baptized in 1993. Mother would regularly participate in church activities and on one occasion traveled to Israel for a mission trip accompanied by other church members. Mother had an impeccable memory. She remembered everyone’s birthdays, grandchildren's extracurricular events, places to go, and major roads of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. After retirement, mother was passionate about taking care of her six grandchildren: Erin, Ian, Melissa, Sarah, Carter, and Jared. From changing diapers, picking kids up from school, watching kids during the summer, to attending school events and sports activities - she did it all. A few phrases that Mother always asked her children and grandchildren were "did you eat?" and "eat some more". She would always make sure they had eaten and if not, ask what they wanted so that she could make it at home. Mother is survived by her children Erick (Kina), Cheryl, and Ron (Kerri) and grandchildren Erin, Ian, Melissa, Sarah, Carter, and Jared. Visitation: Monday, October 16 from 5-7 pm at Braman Mortuary Southwest Chapel, 144th and Harrison A service will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00 AM at the Korean Presbyterian Church of Omaha located at 14015 Q Street. Following the service, lunch will be served until noon. The burial will begin at 1:00 PM at the Walnut Hill Cemetery located at 1350 East Pierce Street in Council Bluffs Iowa.
