FLESHNER, Leonard B. 10/15/1932 – 7/24/2017 Age 84 years of Omaha Leonard Fleshner, devoted husband, beloved father of five, proud grandfather of six, and lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2017 after a short stay in hospice. Len was born in Lidderdale, Iowa on October 15, 1932, the youngest of 3 sons born to George and Dena Fleshner. Len grew up on the farm and later worked for the railroad in many rural areas, in and around Carroll, Iowa. He joined the US Army, and was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany. He often credited his skill with Morse code, acquired during his railroad days, for why he was granted the opportunity to serve in the Army. Leonard’s experiences in Europe were extraordinary for the young Iowa farm boy. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Gudrun Bischoff. Leonard and Gudrun were married in Germany, and started a family shortly after moving to the Carroll Iowa area. Leonard moved his growing family to Sioux City, where he continued his career in transportation, leaving the rail for the airlines. Leonard and Gudrun moved to Omaha and enjoyed a joyous life together. Leonard spent his time playing golf, beating everyone in pool, playing spinner, winning in cards, conquering Chess, and watching Cubs baseball. Leonard is survived by his wife, Gudrun, his son Eric Fleshner of Bonney Lake, Washington, his son Christopher Fleshner and wife Sabine of Omaha, Nebraska, his daughter Monika Fleshner and husband Peter Bowers of Boulder, Colorado, his daughter Vanessa Polcha and husband Andrew of Manassas, Virginia, daughter‐in‐law Kara Fleshner, grandchildren Sam and Charlie Bowers, Andy, Moni, and Marky Polcha, and Gudrun Grace Fleshner, and family friend Raz Reinecke.
