Larry G Brooks
August 21, 1942 ~ December 11, 2024

Larry was born on August 21, 1942, in Hannibal, MO, where he spent his childhood playing with his brothers, sister and neighborhood friends along the banks of the Mississippi River. Soon after graduating from Hannibal High School in 1960, he joined the U.S. Air Force and moved to Omaha, NE, for basic training at Offutt Air Force Base. While in Nebraska, he met and married the love of his life, Carmela (Hembertt). After living in various cities around the U.S. for their careers, the couple resettled in Omaha and raised their family. In October, Larry and Carmela celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Fun, funny and friendly, Larry never met a stranger and had a unique ability to brighten anyone’s day. A quick trip to the store or stroll through the neighborhood could turn into hours, as he always took the time to stop and chat and share a laugh with anyone he met, old friend or new. His big smile, bad jokes and willingness to connect with people on all levels will be sorely missed.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carmela; son, Brian (Sierra) Brooks of Salt Lake City; grandchildren Oliver and Emerson; several in-laws and many nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Beth, and all of his siblings - Bill Brooks, Joann Hoover and Bob Brooks.

Larry will be cremated and his ashes interred at Omaha National Cemetery. A “Celebration of Life” event will be planned in the spring.
