Kirk A. Windhorst

April 25, 1955 — January 18, 2022

Kirk Allen Windhorst passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 18, 2022. Kirk was born on April 25, 1955 in Clarinda, IA to the late Paul & Luella Windhorst. He was raised in Lenox, IA and had one older and one younger sister, making him the favorite son. After high school Kirk moved to the big city of Omaha, NE to attend college. He worked as the Warehouse Manager at Future Foam in Omaha for almost 35 years. On April 1, 1982, Kirk met his best friend and love of his life, Darcy Schaff. Kirk enjoyed playing golf and feeding the birds and squirrels (or whatever wild animals would come along) off the back deck. But some of the luckiest creatures on this Earth were much loved and spoiled cats. One of the things Kirk was most proud of was his sobriety. He would have celebrated 7 years sober on January 19th. The journey to sobriety also gave him the opportunity to be a volunteer at the Open Door Mission where he spent his time at the Garland Thompson Men’s Center encouraging the men experiencing homelessness. Kirk is survived by his partner in life, Darcy Schaff, step daughter, Darla Schaff, sister, Jackie Banks (Craig Cunningham), and a niece and nephew. He is proceeded in death by his father, Paul Windhorst, mother, Luella (Grother) Windhorst and sister, Julie Windhorst. Family, friends and others whose lives Kirk touched are welcome to the Braman Mortuary, 6505 S 144th Street, Omaha, NE, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat and celebrate Kirk.
