On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, Kent McCance of Omaha Nebraska, loving son and brother, passed away at age 60. Kent was born on February 21,1960 in Gothenburg , NE to Don and Orva (Siemering) McCance.After graduating high school in Lexington in 1978, he received his college degree from Kearney State College in 1988. Kent’s career path has always included working around children and young adults,After college, he spent several years as a Child Protective Service worker before transitioning to being a staff member at a group home working with foster children with emotional and behavioral issues. Kent would always take home one or more children to spend the holidays with his family.For over the past 25 years, Kent has worked as a custodian at the Millard Public Schools with a large portion of the time spend at Millard South High School.He took great pride in his work, and thoroughly loved his work family and all the students, Kent’s life always revolved around sports, as a child in Lexington Nebraska he participated in Baseball, Basketball, Football, Bowling, Golf and Cross Country. He was most known for pitching Horseshoe, and made history in 1971 when at age 11, he became the first Junior State Champion in Nebraska (a title he won 3 times).His classmates assigned him the nickname “Shoe”. Kent continued to pitch horseshoes throughout his years, building a horseshoe court in his backyard to ensure he could practice at anytime. He began bowling in the youth bowling association, participating and winning many awards in singles, doubles and family doubles tournaments. His love of bowling and his competitive spirit never waned, He competed on the Kearney State college team, and continued to bowl on many leagues throughout the years. If Kent wasn’t participating in a sporting activity, he was watching..He loved all things Husker and like many would rearrange events because there was a great game on TV. In Kent’s free time, he loved working outside and taking time to find a great fishing spot.He was known for kind heart, his infectious smile and fun loving spirit. Kent was preceded in death by his mother Orva.He is survived by his father Don of Omaha Nebraska and sister Karla McCance of Wendell, North Carolina, several cousins and friends. Gathering of Family & Friends: Saturday, Sept., 5, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 PM with a Memorial Service 4:00 PM, all at Braman Mortuary (Southwest Chapel). Attendees encouraged to wear Husker or Millard South attire. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or plant a tree in Kent’s honor.
